How to Add Internal Links
If you’ve read our tips on optimizing your Squarespace website then you know that adding internal links is a great way to increase visibility and traffic. If you haven’t, well, now you know :)
Links can be added as text, navigation link, image links or buttons. Fortunately for all, Squarespace’s link editor is virtually the same for all of these areas. The steps in this quick guide apply to adding links for all areas. You can also use these steps for linking to files, external URLs, phone numbers and email addresses.
These do not apply to adding clickthrough links to Squarespace 7.0 gallery pages.
1. Text Links
Highlight the word or phrase that you want to make clickable.
Click the link icon on your text editor bar. (ex. 1)
In the pop-up window enter a forward slash (/) to get a dropdown list of pages, categories and tags on your site.
Select the page you want to link to.
To link to files, email addresses or phone numbers, select the URL tab for other options.
Click away from the link editor (any blank space on the page) & Save.
2. Image Blocks
The same workflow is involved for image and button blocks.
Add your button or image block
Double-click the block
For image blocks select Attach Link, for button blocks select the link icon from the editor bar. (ex.4) ➛
3. Navigation Links
Adding links to your navigation is again, roughly the same process. This time you are editing in your pages panel rather than editing blocks on a page.
Navigate to Website > Pages
Click the + icon in your Main Navigation and select Link
Name the link (Shop, Book, Schedule, etc)
Select the page you are linking to from the dropdown, enter an external URL, or file.
Click Save.
